Color influences the cellular, physical form in profound ways. It is one of the most gentle healing treatments around, too, because you must simply surround yourself in certain hues to gain their benefits. Called chromotherapy, the use of color is grounded in the vibrational frequency or velocity of white light.
Just as the varying frequency of light makes us see different colors through the ocular lens of the eye, it also affects our nervous system and other functions in our body. The velocities of light range from white light which vibrates at a velocity of 186,000 miles a second through violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and black, which moves at around 140,000 miles per second.
Color is just one manifestation of vibration, and all vibration interacts with the human body to cause it to be either healthier and more vibrant, or sick and exhausted.
For example, unresolved emotional issues can block the flow of certain beneficial vibrations. Color, sound, and other forms of vibratory healing can help to shift the blockages and allow qi to flow once again without obstruction. Illness is nothing more than an erroneous vibration, or one that is not in harmony with the human form.
As Dr. Leonard Horowitz has stated, “You are a digital, bioholographic, precipitation, crystallization, miraculous manifestation, of Divine frequency vibrations, forming harmonically in hydro-space.”
Dependent upon the type of healing needed, you can wear, decorate with, or seek our natural forms of the following colors, such as by surrounding yourself in the red of sunrise and sunset, or going to a crystal blue-green beach if those are the colors which are needed to facilitate healing.
Red – Red is considered an active, passionate color, this vibration can be used to kick-start slow digestion, boost an appetite, or even enhance sexual desire. It is also the color of the root chakra, Muladhara. Because it increases adrenaline as well it should be used only in cases where someone does not need rest, and instead needs more stimulation. Garnet and onyx are good stones to use for their color vibrations.
Orange – Orange is a happy, warm, inviting color. Think of the sun. It can boost the immune system and induce a sense of joy. Orange is the color of the second or sacral chakra, Swadhistana. You can place stones like carnelian or orange zincite near you to help balance this chakra with their vibrations.
Yellow – Yellow is a stimulating color so should be used sparingly, but is bright and cheerful. It can stimulate detoxification of the body, and inspire those who feel sluggish. It is also associated with healing of skin conditions. It is the color of the solar plexus, or Manipura. You can use stones like citrine or yellow sapphire for their solar plexus-supportive healing.
Green – Green is one of the most commonly found colors in nature, and is greatly healing. It symbolizes balance – both growth and renewal. Green connects us to all things. It is also the color of the heart chakra, or Anahata, meaning “unstruck.” The lungs, and circulatory system are positively affected by being near and seeing green. Green tourmaline or simply being among forested areas can help balance the heart chakra and the organs associated with it.
Blue – Blue is the color of the throat chakra, or Vishudha. It is another color associated with nature – of the sky and sea, and therefore being near these natural aspects can greatly induce healing. The stone turquoise if also very beneficial. Blue can lower blood pressure, reduce a rapid heart rate, and induce calm. It is a relaxing color for the mind and body.
Indigo – Indigo or dark blue is the color of insight. This is the name of the chakra associated with it in Sanskirt, Ajna. Indigo is also associated with the opening of the third eye. Being near or seeing dark blue, or wearing a lapis lazuli stone can help to balance the pituitary, the eyes, the sinuses, and help promote the use of our sixth sense or intuition.
Purple – Purple is the color of Amethyst. It can benefit the mind’s clarity. It is also beneficial for healing Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, as well as depression and confusion. All shades of purple and violet are useful for healing the cerebral and nervous system. The associated chakra is the crown chakra, or Sahasrara, which means “thousand-fold” in Sanskrit, referencing the thousand-petalled lotus of consciousness that is obtained when this chakra has been healed and balanced.
