What Being Yourself Really Means

We have heard many times, people saying, or even ourselves sometimes, that we want to be ourselves. But what does that really mean?

Does that mean being of some kind of gender? Being a woman, a man or transgender.

Does that mean being from certain nationality? From certain race? From certain status? Showing certain behavior? Quitting your job?

Many people could be confusing the original idea of who they are, with the identifiers that they have accumulated through their lives.

Identifiers are all the things that help you have a sense of identity, but are not really you: Your age, gender, color, religion, profession, look, etc.

To get to the essence of who we are, we need to understand the original idea of who we are. What was the idea in the head of God that created you? Before you become a living element in this planet, the universal mind said, “I have an idea, lets create him or her”. We can take it a step further in the mind of the creator and say, what was the original idea of a human being.

The first thing that we need to know about any creation is their qualities.

What are the qualities of being human, what does it mean when you call someone human, or you tell someone to act humanely, or to be human.

The answer is more than one quality, but which can be summarized in one supra- quality, that is “kindness”. Kindness includes more than one quality, it is a set of qualities that are all grouped into this meta-quality, the quality of compassion, love and understanding are part of kindness. And so are, reasoning, discernment and justice.

Then we can say that the fundamental quality that originated the idea of humanity is kindness. Not, being kind, but just kindness. A state of being.

There is a subtle difference in our level of understanding, but when applied to consciousness, makes a whole world.

Now, that we have the broader concept, we can go to the more specific concept, that is us.

Have you ever thought of what your more remarkable qualities are? Besides being human? Create a list, to then find the essence or meta-quality of the original idea of your individual self.

Line up your five most remarkable qualities, then write other five qualities that are less remarkable but that you feel identified with. Finally write five negative qualities, things that are also who you are, but in the negative spectrum, like for example in my case I named positive and negative qualities, we are both, no one is only positive, that is not how balance works. The secret to remain positive is to know your negative qualities too, to master them and maintain them under control.

No one can say they don’t have any negative traits, but they can certainly say they have learned to dominate their fears and negative qualities. I choose to allow a small dose of my negative qualities in a positive perspective. For example, I use my asceticism and strict discipline to enforce my diet and remove from my life all that can be harmful to my soul and body. I use a quality that could be seen as too strict and deprived of all enjoyment to fulfill a higher goal that is enlightenment, health and higher consciousness.

Now that you have lined up the positive and negative qualities of your original idea, the original idea of who you are; give yourself a few minutes contemplating this conglomerate of elements. The answer may not be able to be put on words. It may be a feeling, it may be the certainty of a feeling that only you are familiar with. All those are valid answers.

This is what you are looking for. Some of the most exciting things in life are feelings, things that can’t be explained. Be open to receive the answer intuitively instead of expressly.

The next step, is to affirm in ourselves the original idea of who we are, and we are going to do it in two ways; first, with a meditation and later with a ritual. We are going to meditate in the spaces of the Universal mind where ideas are created, to come in contact with this original idea of who we are; to then communicate to the entire realm of elements of the earth and nature, that you are yourself. This will activate the law of attraction and put in your way, everything that resonates with the original idea of yourself, everything that is familiar and in love.
